Dear Parents andGuardians,
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year. It seems like yesterday that we dismissed students for the summer, and here we are already starting the second week of school. The first week was fast and furious with students, and staff alike learning about each other, and settling into the school schedule. If the quickness of the first three days are any indication of the rest of the year, it will not be long until we are releasing students again for the summer. But until then, I want to express my appreciation for allowing us to be a part of your childís life.
The district lost some staff due to retirement, or change in jobs. We are very fortunate to have found high quality people to replace them. Walker Rose is the 5-12 Band teacher, Jody Roseland is the K-12 Music teacher, Kelli Nagel is an elementary Special Education teacher, Rachel Pederson in a middle school Language Arts, and Social Studies teacher, Mercedes Lemke is our Agriculture teacher, and Trish Ahlemeier has become our elementary Intervention teacher, and Librarian. If you visit the school, be sure to stop, and introduce yourself to them.
Speaking of introductions, I am starting my third year as Superintendent here in Gettysburg. As I start my 24th year in education, and my 20th as an administrator, I have seen a lot of things over the years in education. One thing that I have seen is that we have some wonderfully talented teachers working, and doing great things in the classroom. I expect to see great things of teachers, which in turn leads to great things from our students.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please contact your studentís teacher, Mrs. Smith, or myself. The schoolís website has a great deal of information, and we are striving to put more information on the website, to give you as much information as possible.
Again, thank you for allowing us to have your students for a good portion of the day. I believe that we are starting a fantastic school year.
Yours in Education,
Chip Sundberg, Superintendent
Gettysburg School District
