My name is Monica Odvody (Ud-vud-dee). I am the Early Childhood/Lower Elementary Special Education Teacher. I am starting my 3rd year in Gettysburg and have enjoyed getting to know the students, parents, staff and community. I am a teacher because of my lifelong love of children. As far back as I can remember I was always seeking out babies and children to entertain. I volunteered at daycares from the ages of 12 - 15, I started babysitting as soon as I could, was a teacherís aide all throughout high school. So, it was only natural that I chose a profession that lets me do that on a daily basis. I come to school every day feeling lucky and blessed to be doing what I love for a living.
We try to incorporate fun into our learning environment, so we often have sensory/art activities that allow kids to meet their sensory needs along with their academic needs. I love seeing my students learn new things and watching that lightbulb moment happen. I work closely with the students to help them learn the skills and resources to become independent, successful individuals not only in school but in their everyday lives. However, I truly believe it takes a team (parents, teachers, student, teacherís aides, administration, outside resources, etc.) working together to help each student reach their goals and independence.
