Mr. Smith’s Gettysburg Service will be this Sunday, February 18th. Visitation will be at 1pm, with the funeral service starting at 2pm in the old gym. We invite everyone to stay at the school after the service for light refreshments, served by the Gettysburg Staff. We invite all past and present Battler staff, coaches, and school board members that have worked with Vern over his 37 years of service to the district. Spouses/significant others are welcome to sit as a group. We will meet in the new gym at 1:30 to gather and walk into the service together. Please use staff parking. Wear your favorite Battler gear! Please share this information with any past staff, coaches, or board members. We ask that you sign up using the link below, so we can get a count of how many chairs are needed for the service.  https://forms.gle/Hw3iJyFoFeHrd5nd9

As part of our Ecosystem unit, students have been getting plenty of exercise understanding the benefits and disadvantages to living in a group or as a solitary animal. Our first lab was called Food Fight! Students were split into habitats and instructed to gather as much food as possible in a 3 minute time frame. Some students were solitary animals while others worked as a group of 2, 3, or 4. Each food item of different size was worth a different amount of points. The real challenge was that students were only able to touch the food items with their spoon! Our second lab, titled Tag You’re Sick!, showed students how quickly disease can spread throughout a group of animals. (We are currently experiencing this in our classroom too!! 🙈) students that lived in a group had to lock arms. If one student was tagged, the whole group became sick. Our first game took about 30 seconds for everyone to become infected!

Learning can be fun! Students in Mrs. Hansen’s 3rd grade class put their Auditory Processing skills to work in a restaurant setting building pizzas! Each student had the opportunity to be a waiter or waitress who had to know all the menu items by memory. They then had to take the customers order and rely that order to the cook. We discussed ways to make this easier and tricks to help with memorization skills!
